Inspired by the life around him – kids who cycled past his home daily, children fetching water, and with a genuine aptitude for visual aesthetics, subject matter that he feels deeply about, a distinct way of steering the palette and paintbrush, with thick brushstrokes and an impressive use of light and shadow, with hints of [Patrick] Mukabi’s tutoring still evident in his work, Alex has roused an audience, many of whom can’t wait for him to stretch his wings out wider; to come in to his own. The results are charming and impressive, revealing Mbevo’s passion for colour and his subject matter. Alex Mbevo has exhibited at Paa ya Paa Art Gallery, Kuona Trust Arts Centre, Manjano (Village Market), FOTA (International School of Kenya), The Talisman  and several other local venues these last five years.
